Estimation of long-term methane emissions from Mechanical-Biological Treatment waste through biomethane potential test

چکیده

Mechanical-Biological Treatment (MBT) is a technology applied to reduce the environmental impacts of urban waste based on stabilizing organic matter content. As process not entirely efficient, residue can generate methane when it landfilled. Long-term emissions estimation models usually over or underestimated because actual composition after stabilization generally unknown. This work proposes single tool improve emission estimations landfilled MBT determination biomethane potential test (BMP). Experimental BMP crude and stabilized fractions municipal solid obtained from an plant were carried out, results used predict two models, LandGEM (2005) IPCC (2006). In model, experimental value represents L0 while in model allowed obtain ultimate carbon anaerobically degraded (DOCf), linear correlation (R2 = 0.944, p-value < .05) that be DOCf any composition. The long-term (40 years) disposed land showed overestimations up 56.0% (IPCC model) 259.5% (Landgem default data, instead waste; similar behaviour was observed for (23.3% 241.3% overestimations). Moreover, impact revealed reductions 5.1% 20.9% respectively.

Methane and nitrous oxide emissions from municipal wastewater treatment - results from a long-term study.

Methane and nitrous oxide emissions from a fully covered municipal wastewater treatment plant were measured on-line during 16 months. At the plant under study, nitrous oxide contributed three-quarters to the plant's carbon footprint, while the methane emission was slightly larger than the indirect carbon dioxide emission related to the plant's electricity and natural gas consumption. This contr...

Evaluation of the biomethane potential of solid fish waste.

Manufacturing processes in fish canning industries generate a considerable amount of solid waste that can be digested anaerobically. The aim of this research was to study the biochemical methane potential of different solid fish waste. For tuna, sardine and needle fish waste, around 0.47g COD-CH(4)/g COD(added) was obtained in batch experiments with 1%TS; whereas for mackerel waste, the methane...

Estimation of methane and nitrous oxide emissions from Indian livestock.

Greenhouse gas (GHG; methane and nitrous oxide) emissions from enteric fermentation and manure management of Indian livestock were estimated from the last two Indian livestock census datasets (2003 and 2007) using IPCC Tier 2 (2006) guidelines. The total annual GHG emissions from Indian livestock increased in 2007 compared to the year 2003 with an annual growth rate of 1.52% over this period. T...

Pilot project of mechanical-biological treatment of waste in Brazil.

By mechanical-biological treatment (MBT) of residual municipal solid waste the behaviour of landfills can be significantly improved. After MBT the organic content (COD and BOD5), total organic carbon, and total nitrogen in the leachate, as well as the gas production rate, are reduced to values lower than 90% of the fresh untreated waste. The volume of the stabilized material to be disposed on l...
